Tooth wear is the result of four different and frequently combined processes: abrasion, attrition, erosion, and abfraction. Abrasion is wear created by interaction of the tooth with other materials. Attritions involves wear caused by tooth-to-tooth contact. Erosion is caused by acidic substances. Abfraction is associated with enamel loss at the gumline.
